European Open
Partille Cup has made an agreement with the European Handball Federation concerning the European Open Championship (EOC). The agreement is running until 2012.
EOC is a tournament with 20-30 junior national teams that will be played parallel to Partille Cup. Women and men are playing every second year. This year women born 1992 or younger will attend. The matches will be played in Lisebergshallen (2 000 spectators), in Valhalla A – (700 spectators), B- and C-halls (200 spectators) and in Scandinavium where the finals will be played.
This year’s tournament will be played Tuesday July 6th until Saturday July 10th. There will be 20 national teams here in Göteborg to fight for the title. The following teams will attend: Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Time for the finals
Today, Saturday, it’s time for finals in European Open Championship 2010 in Gothenburg. For the first time in history the placement games shall be played in Scandinavium.
In the final Denmark meets Russia, a reprise of last year’s final in U 17-European Championship in Serbia. Then Denmark won after recovering from an obvious weak position in halftime. Time for revenge?
The referees in the final are the Polish twin pair Malgorzata & Urszula Gutowsaka.
In the game for third place Sweden and Poland will meet. Referees: Viktoria Alpaidze & Tatyana Berezkina, Russia.
After the final game there is a big award ceremony at approximately 22.00. Then shall, amongst other thing, the tournament’s All Star Team and the Top Scorer be elected.
Then it’s time to put the 2010 tournament, the sixth in the order, behind us.

THE GROUP PLAY ENDS
European Open has now started its second day. The games prolong till the afternoon (Wednesday), were the group play ends.
The games of the first day flowed perfectly. Nothing notable happened, says Ralf Lundberg with the European Open’s Competition Secretariat.
Sweden plays at 15.00 i Lisebergshallen against the Netherlands. It is a group final between two undefeated teams.

Today, Tuesday July 6, the sixth European Open Championship in connection with Partille Cup in Gothenburg is initiated. This year women, born 1992-93, will play – 19 nations stand on the starting line. There were supposed to be 20 teams in the tournament, however Brazil withdraw and leaves Sweden’s group E with only three teams.
Grouping:
Group A: Denmark, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Poland.
Group B: Russia, Croatia, Austria and Iceland.
Group C: Norway, Romania, Montenegro and Portugal.
Group D: Hungary, Spain, Finland and Switzerland.
Group E: Netherlands, Sweden and Czech Republic.
Eleven pairs referee in European Open 2010. Amongst them are three sibling pairs; Davon & Zoran Loncar from Croatia, Malgorzata & Urszula Gutowska from Poland and Kim & Marielle Åström from Sweden.
Five pairs are female (except for the sibling pairs Åström and Gutowska) : Coralie Cochard and Victoria Hery, France, Stine Johnsen and Guro Roen, Norway and Viktoria Alpaidze and Tatyana Berezkina, Russia.

Stefan Albrechtson awarded
During the great Leaders Party in Scandinavium there was a share-out of Staffan Holmqvist’s memorial fund, institute 2008. The distributor were the brothers Leif and Jörgen.
The scholar of the year is the well-known Stefan Albrechtson, Club Director and President of Partille Cup and so on. ”Abbe” is nowadays a very well-known profile in the entire handball world and is really well worth this award.
2008 Julius Mwangi Ndriangu from Kenya was awarded the scholarship.
Footnote. Staffan Holmqvist is one of the greatest leaderprofiles in Swedish and international handball. He passed away 2007, 65 years old.

Before the final games on Thursday in European Open in Gothenburg there
are three teams unbeaten in the tournament:
Portugal in group A, Switzerland in group B and Slovenia in group D.
Wednesday July 1st was an eventful day in the summercity Gothenburg.
* Games in Partille Cup – celebrating 40-year anniversary – opened
and an incrediable inauguration was arranged
before a packed Scandinavia.
* IHF-President Hassam Moustafa was in place och took the
opportunity earlier that day to sign the WC-contract for
the men’s finals 2011 in Sweden together with the Swedish
Handball Federation’s President Hans Vestberg.
